Electrical Maintenance Technician (Electrician)

Job Purpose:

To assist in the day to day maintenance operations and put in measures to maximise equipment availability. Working alongside contractors and other internal team members put in measures to maintain the safe repair and operation of plant and facilities.

The Role:

• Put in measures so that the electrical systems employed within the business comply with the latest legislative/regulatory requirements
• Safely fault find and repair (alongside contractors as needed) plant, equipment and facilities to minimise downtime
• Carry out preventative maintenance checks within the specified time limit as directed by the team leader
• Assist (or lead where directed) in the safe decommissioning of old plant/equipment and the safe installation/commissioning of new plant/equipment
• Using sound electrical engineering knowledge to proactively seek to improve the equipment through failure root cause analysis
• Strive to achieve the operational KPI’s as set by senior management
• Where required, assist in the writing of technical specifications, risk assessments and method statements
• Guide and coach technical apprentices who may be working within the maintenance department
• Identify opportunities to improve the processes, facilities and personnel employed within the business
• Carry out any other duty, for which you are suitably competent, as deemed necessary by your supervisor or manager
• Implement and maintain the relevant lean management systems

Essential Skills:

• Time served apprentice and considerable industrial experience
• City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1&2 in electrical installations or industry recognised equivalent
• City & Guilds 2382 IEE Wiring Regulations 18th Edition (BS7671)
• Level 3 NVQ Electro-technical Services or industry recognised equivalent
• Excellent understanding/working knowledge of general electrical/electronic systems (1ph, 3ph supplies, motors etc)
• Excellent communication skills
• Good understanding of electrical sfety systems & requirements
• Understanding of H&S requirements – HASAWA 1974, PUWER, Electricity at Work Regs 1989
• Excellent, logical approach to fault finding.
• Ability to work under pressure

Desirable Skills:

• Working knowledge of lean methodology (TPM, 6S, visual management)
• ISO 9001/14001/45001
• Knowledge of working with preventative maintenance systems
• Mentoring/coaching skills
• MEWP licence
• Experience of working with induction heating
• Testing and inspection

Working Hours:

Monday – Thursday 7am – 12.30pm – 1pm – 4.45pm – 37 hours per week
