1889 Signal Box gets upgrade

The Greatham signal box, situated between Billingham and Hartlepool on the Durham coast, originally comprised of a mechanical interlock dating back to 1889, which was reconditioned by McKenzie and Holland in the 1940s.

As part of a somewhat more recent Network Rail LNE project the Greatham signal box, level crossing and mechanical signals were upgraded to a free wired interlock with coloured light signals, powered points and DC track circuits.

Our scope in the project was to assemble and fit out a new REB housing the signalling interlock and level crossing controls. We also supplied a set of approximately 40 location cases fitted with local control equipment and power distribution.
